WHERE I COME FROM

Ginnie Farrell is a mother of three children who all graduated from Albany High and attended Albany schools.

Before working for Assemblymember Fahy, Ginnie volunteered thousands of hours in Albany schools supporting young artists, building gardens, and helping kids read. She also taught art classes to kids and adults at the Albany Art Room.

Ginnie has a magna cum laude Art History Major from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Before staying home with her children, she coordinated the Coalition of Arts Providers in Buffalo, a non-profit that provides arts programming for schools.

A CAREER OF SERVICE

Ginnie Farrell was elected as the Albany Common Council representative for the 13th Ward in 2017. In 2019, she was chosen by her fellow council members to serve as Majority Leader, a position she still holds. She is currently the Chair of the Law, Buildings, and Codes Committee and a former Chair of the Finance Committee. She still serves on the Finance Committee and the Human Rights and Human Resources Committee.

Ginnie was part of the Leadership Team for the $25 million Albany for All funding from the City of Albany's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). She helped review over 147 project applications that funded community revitalization projects to support small businesses, housing, childcare, the arts, and more in Albany.

Apart from her role in the Albany Common Council, Ginnie also works for the NYS Assembly, beginning her career with Assemblymember Pat Fahy and working with her for four years, getting to know the 109th district and issues. She currently serves as the Committee Director for the Environmental Conservation Committee in the office of the Chair, Assemblymember Deborah Glick. She worked in this office since 2016 and currently oversees legislation that affects New York State's environmental conservation and preservation efforts. This includes protecting birds and bees as well as focusing on packaging reduction, producer responsibility, and other important environmental efforts.

Before joining the Common Council, Ginnie was elected citywide to the Albany City School Board. She served in various leadership roles, including president, and championed the transformational Albany High School renovation project into reality.

She remains involved with Albany Schools as a board member of the Albany Fund for Education, where she served as President for four years.

Ginnie is passionate about education, the environment, and community infrastructure, including supporting small businesses and enabling pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. She believes strongly in reproductive rights and fighting for affordable housing opportunities.

"My history of community dedication, public service, and policy experience on the local and state level gives me the expertise and knowledge to make a difference from day one as the Assemblymember for the 109th District."
